Horse Isle 3 – Photography!

This is a fun new feature that not only lets you take pictures of wildlife, plants and geological formations around the Infinite Wilds, it also allows you to earn Essence and Quest Points as you snap!

For each unique photo you take, of the items listed in your Profile, you earn 10 Essence and 10 Quest Points. Each photo needs a Film kit, which can be crafted. There is also a Trophy to be won at different numbers of photographs taken.

Interested in becoming an intrepid photographer? Here’s how to do it.

First, you need to unlock the camera. It’s a one time unlock through the Equipment menu but it needs 1,000 Essence with 250 of that being from the Volcanic Biome.

Next, you’ll need Film Kits. These can be made five at a time at your Crafting Shed, or you can buy them from other players.

For each Film Kit you need 5 Paper, 3 Caribou Moss, 2 Red Algae, and 1 Silver Ore.

Silver Ore can be bought at Importers. TigerTon’s Importer sells them, for example.

Red Algae is found by digging in those pink pools you find among the geysers.

Caribou Moss is a white, branchy looking stuff you can find in Tundra.

Paper is made at your Crafting Shed and takes 2 papyrus each. Papyrus is found in the rare and elusive Fertile Oasis, which is usually in the middle of massive dune seas.

Here are pictures of what everything looks like, and a couple example photos at the end. To take a picture, have at least one Film Kit, and press N to open the camera. Once you have your cross hairs over something that is on your photography list, it will tell you. Left-click to take the shot. After that it will give you your reward and also save a copy of the picture on your computer’s hard drive. If you take a second picture of the same animal/plant/feature, it will replace the image and use up another Film Kit.

Horse Isle 3 Update – Wild Animals

Infinite Wilds just had a really cool update, just in time for the holidays. Wild animals are now roaming the lands, and not just rabbits! There are various kinds of deer, bear, wolves, big cats, foxes, boars, and more. In the Wonderland biome you can see them in their baby forms.

Each biome has its own unique creatures. I’m particularly happy to report that black panthers can be found in the Jungle biome, where my club is related!

At the moment the creatures will wander around, paw at the ground, appear to eat things or somtimes scratch an itch, and occasionally run away from you. You can’t interact with them but you can usually walk right up and take a close look. The devs have said that they might create some kind of photography feature in the future, but in the meantime I’ve taken plenty of screen cap snapshots.

One of the really neat parts about this is all the animals will actually go to sleep during Horse Isle’s short night cycle! It’s pretty cool to come along and see a sleeping panther or wolf.

If you want a full list of critters and where they can be found, check out the Library for a new book devoted to them. I’m sure more is to come, however this is a really great and fun update!

Photography Tip: If you really want to take great pictures, turn off the GUI up in Settings at the upper right of the game screen. It looks like a wrench. Also, if you take pictures from a distance with a Telescope, the critters will look more natural. Get too close, and they will tend to face you all the time.

Horse Isle 3 Updates

Horse Isle 3

We’ve had a number of updates lately and here are a few of the neatest things!

We have a wider variety of clothes for our players, as well as new hair and also wider color choices.

Some of you may yet be unaware of the almighty sailboat – which is great because you actually can go pretty fast in it! Let me know if you want a Sailing Guide, or perhaps a Modes of Tranpsort Guide.

We have some new saddles, including an Ornate version and a monotone version, so we don’t have to deal with two tone saddles anymore.

We can also upgrade our tack using crystals! A guide for that is also in the works.

And we have a hot air balloon!

We have some new horse animations, with cool reactions to things. Wild horses also will now react to your presence and occasionally wander away.

And, along with some cool old ruins scattered around the center of the world, we also have some neat journey quests! It’s a great way to make money, Essence, and quest points, all while getting to see more of the area. Here’s the endpoint of the quest that leads you to the top of a Candy Mountain:

Update!

I’m making some changes to encourage myself to put up more content and make more art. So I’m combining my old personal art site, rohvannynshaw.com, and this one – and opening an ArtStation account to house my portfolio. It saves time and money. That time component is especially important, now that I’m a member of leadership at my company, and don’t have quite so much of it as I once did.

I really like ArtStation as a place to see store professional level work and it does everything I used to have with my old personal site, except it gets traffic. It also has a clean, simple interface that makes my art look great. It’s also filled with really amazing artists who do this sort of thing for a living, so I’m constantly inspired. Therefore, I’m busily uploading my old work, linked here for your viewing enjoyment. Just click on the image to see my brand spanking new profile.
